Job Chapters 33-35
More Elihu. Why Won't Elihu Shut Up!!!!?????
There are several problems with Elihu. First, he’s a useless individual who simply talks to hear himself talk. Second, he goes on and on and on. He’s one of the most boring characters in the Bible but he does inspire some fascination. He’s like the hawk tuah girl using her 15 minutes of fame to sell a pump-and-dump crypto or that door dash driver screaming about being sexually assaulted when it was obvious that she was perpetrator (even before it came out that she opened the door on that drunk guy)
Beyond “OMG this guy sucks”, writing about Elihu was a bit of a chore. He’s very repetitive and he’s just the worst. However, I did slog through and wrote the following articles. In Chapter 33, I speculated that Elihu fits in with the themes of the book because a major theme is that stupid people are so aggressively stupid that they are painful. I included a picture of John Cusack, but at this point there are hundreds of Hollywood celebrities from Ilana Glazer (whom I hated long before she decided to play kapo because I took a bg acting gig on Broad City) to Mandy Patinkin.

Is Elihu supposed to be funny? He's too clueless to be taken seriously. Everything he says sounds like a parody of a teenage boy who just discovered Howard Zinn or Noam Chomsky and wants to teach those “deep thoughts”. Or the religious equivalent. Even
Moving onto Chapter 34, we get to see Elihu really being a self-righteous prick. Recently, the term empathy has been weaponized. Charlie Kirk didn’t believe in empathy so boo hiss everyone ignore the part where he said he prefers sympathy because you can’t feel everyone’s pain. Lindsay Ellis came back from the Nebula Ghetto to “defend” that weird Hamas loving children’s entertainer for showing “empathy” to the children of Gaza (but not the children of Israel who were originally murdered by Hamas). Idubbz claims to have empathy even as he laughed at Ethan Klein getting harassed.
Still empathy is usually a good thing and if you are self-righteous without any empathy, you could end up spouting a bunch of shit at someone who doesn’t want to hear it and only make things worse.

Elihu makes me want to apologize to Bildad, Eliphaz and Zophar. For all their faults, they were trying to help. They are bad at it, but they meant well. Finally there’s Chapter 35 and yes, Elihu is still stupid. In this chapter, I compared him to fascists and tankies. The problem with Elihu is that he’s so repetitive and awful that it was really hard to write anything new about him. Read all these articles together and you can feel my soul shriveling.
