The story is called “Go Ask Ophelia” and I wrote it when I was missing a friend who I fell in love with. I mean who hasn’t gotten to the end of the night with a friend that one had feelings for without bringing up the topic and then yelled “I love you”
And then got the response of “Huh?”
A week later, I finally brought it up and she didn’t go for it. And we stopped talking but then we went back to talking but you really can’t un-ring that bell. As long as we both pretended that we were just really good friends who kind of acted like a couple but that was everyone else seeing it but not us…well, we could have kept going. I suspect that had she been the one to want a more serious relationship, I might have pulled back. We were both in a strange place emotionally.
Anyhow, I wrote this story when I was trying to process those feelings. Technically it’s about two people who can’t make it work, and only one really wants more than friendship.
Also, it’s about really messed up stagings of Hamlet, like what would Hamlet be like if rats were on stage with the actors? Hungry rats? There are also spider robots. So not only is that my name on top, but that cover is an illustration of my story (unless there’s another story with killer spiders in a theater)
Seriously, I need to find more artwork by Trevin Wyant. This is a cool illustration.
Yeah, I did think that this would be a story that she’d read and find funny. We haven’t talked since that year. I hope she’s doing well and she’s happy. I hope that one day she’ll want me back in her life, but that’s her call.
Anyhow, I just re-read the story for the first time in years and I know I’m biased but it’s really funny. Ok, as a writer I’m usually biased in the opposite direction, which is why I might edit a story for years before actually sending it out. And still not be happy.
Here is Trevin Wyant’s Website.

I also have a Patreon, but I don’t really update it.
