BADASS HORROR was the second Dybbuk Press anthology and the first one that I’m proud of. I have some issues with it now, but it still is a fine anthology full of violence and hardcore horror. In a few months (after I finish the High Risk articles) I will talk about the next horror anthology which is Michael Boatman’s short story collection God Laughs When You Die. (Alternate titles included God’s Top Ten Dirty Jokes. Michael is great. He’s currently in a Los Angeles production of Macbeth).
The reason why I was excited to publish Michael Boatman’s short story was because I published Bloodbath at Landsdale Towers and loved it. It’s so raw and hilarious. The main reason why I’m waiting to talk about God Laughs When You Die is because I published “Bloodbath” in that anthology as well, so I need the time to not end up writing the exact same article. Anyhow, the final story in BADASS HORROR is “Bloodbath at Landsdale Towers” because I really wanted to go out strong.
Next we have Davin Ireland’s “The Essences.” I still like this story, but I feel like Ireland should re-write it and turn it into a novel instead. The ending feels rushed. That’s my only complaint. The rest of the story is great.
And then we have Gord Rollo’s “Moving Pictures”, your classic gangster vs tattoo artist story. The tattoo artist wins. I compared it to the Tale of the Hook since it’s a very simple but effective story.
So check out the last three stories, and if they excite you, please consider buying a copy of BADASS HORROR. It will definitely help my bank account and my future publishing ventures. It’s a great nasty little book that you can read at dinner parties and do book reports on.
If you’d like to read more Gord Rollo, Valley of the Scarecrow looks cool.
Davin Ireland was recently published in Mystery Magazine.
Finally, have a great weekend or a great Shabbos if you celebrate and if you are feeling generous, feel free to donate to my Gofundme to help me buy food and pay rent.
